Photo scanning isn’t available yet. Today you enter a serial number by hand, and no photos are uploaded or collected.
What happens today.
When you decode a serial number, the brand and serial are sent to our server to calculate the date and are included in the result’s web address, so you can bookmark or share it. We don’t save them to an account or our database unless you sign in and choose to save the equipment. Like most websites, our hosting provider keeps short-lived request logs, which include page addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
If you create an account, we keep your email address to sign you in, plus the equipment and properties you save. You can remove saved equipment at any time from “My equipment”.
Planned, not yet in effect. The section below describes how we intend photo scanning to work. We’ll publish the final details before it launches.
Used to read the label.
The planned feature will use your photo only to read the manufacturer, model and serial number. The manufacture date will still come from manufacturer-specific rules, never from the image recognition.
Not kept by default.
Our intended approach is to process the photo without retaining it, and to store a photo only if you’re signed in and choose to save it with your equipment.
