How old is my Bryant equipment?

Bryant is one of the Carrier-family brands, and Bryant’s own legacy furnace warranty page is one of the official sources for its serial rule. That page lists serials 2993A00001 through 5211A99999 as furnaces built from 1993 to 2011. The first two digits are the week and the next two the year, so 5211A99999 is the 52nd week of 2011.

How do I tell a Bryant furnace from a Bryant air conditioner by the model number?
Bryant’s product data sheets use the first digit for the product family: 1 for air conditioners (like 116BNA036000), 2 for heat pumps (215BNA036000), and 8 or 9 for gas furnaces, where 8 means 80% and 9 means 90%+ efficiency (987MC42060C17).
Why does my Bryant packaged unit have a Payne-style model number?
Bryant sells some packaged units, such as the PA5Z and PH5Z, under the same model numbers as Payne. Both are Carrier-family brands, so the serial is read the same way.
Can you date a Bryant unit from before 1988?
Not yet. Older Bryant serials used other formats, such as a week number followed by a year letter, and the references disagree on parts of those tables. We only decode the week-and-year format, whose earliest firm evidence is from December 1988.
